A Nice Set in NYC



We Are Plus and Reed Space will be hosting the New York debut of A Nice Set, the world-acclaimed DJ slipmat art exhibition that since 2006 has attracted tastemakers from Hong Kong, Tokyo, Paris, Madrid, Melbourne, Sydney, Singapore and Los Angeles. The opening night of the exhibition will be held at Reed Space at 151 Orchard Street from 7:00-10:00pm with Tyler Askew and Butter spinning throughout the event.

Graphic Design Festival Breda, Netherlands

Takes graphic design to the masses



From 8 to 30 may 2010 the second edition of Graphic Design Festival Breda (GDFB) will take place. GDFB is a biannual festival on graphic design. Over 150 national and international graphic designers hack, remix, sample, mash up and code image, information and interaction. Public presentations, exhibitions, lectures and workshops show us how we can associate with graphic design in new ways. GDFB will surprise the public and inspire the professionals by showing the communicative powers of graphic design within our daily visual culture.

An assault on the senses during the Grec-Sonar night

The Grec and Sónar festivals celebrate a joint night that will light up the Barcelona sky from the hand of Ryoji Ikeda




The Teatre Grec will be open to the public the night of Thursday 17th June, with two works by the Japanese composer and visual artist Ryoji Ikeda: the striking light installation “spectra [barcelona]” and the audiovisual spectacle “test pattern [live set]”.

Sónar also presents five new additions to the Barcelona festival: DJ Hell (with two sessions); 2020Soundsystem and Professor Green, both playing live; and the sonic performances of La Chambre des Machines of Martin Messier and Nicolas Bernierand and POWEr by Alexandre Burton and Julien Roy of the Artificiel collective.

Call for Entries - The 3rd China Automobile Design Competition


“Autos and the City”

Automobile expands one’s social space and accelerates the steps of urbanization. FAW, among China’s most significant automobile enterprises, is committed to fostering China’s automobile industry on the one hand,and exercising its social responsibility on the other. It is dedicated to the development of innovative products, environmental protection, energy conservation and emission reduction, and building livable cities and a harmonious society.

By adopting the theme “Automobiles and the city”, it is hoped that through the investigation of the connection between the two, the close and complex relationship between future urban development and the design of vehicles be reflected upon and possible solutions be speculated. In this competition, design students from all around the globe are invited to contribute to the efforts of finding creative yet practical solutions to the questions raised in this context. Prizes that sum up to a total of RMB 320,000 (USD 47,000) are offered to 42 young creatives.

Design Research Society (DRS) International Conference Design & Complexity



From 7 to 9 July 2010, the School of Industrial Design of University of Montréal will host the Design Research Society’s international conference, DRS2010 Montréal. This event is open to the design community as well as other related disciplines. It will be a unique occasion to share and exchange views and position son current issues and major research themes of the design field. The DRS2010 Montréal conference will address many of the complex and interrelated issues facing contemporary design research, design education and practice.
